November 2008

 Dash and Pat.

On October 25th, Thanks to Jane McNee, Dash had the opportunity to meet some Shetland sheep. How appropriate. Within a few moments he had his lightbulb moment and started to move in half circles around them. My job was to stay with the sheep. I was not great at my part of the deal, but Dash held up his end. It was great to see him turned on by what this breed was bred to do.

Thank you Pat.

This past Sunday we took a relaxing ride through the Eastern Townships here in Québec to view the spectacular fall colors. The weather was perfect and below are pictures along the way of our trip past vineyards, and a visit  to my sister in Eastman.

Dash in the first six months of his life has been exposed to agility, a bit of obedience and tracking.  I hope to introduce him to sheep before the snow arrives to see how strong his herding instincts are.  He loves agility and after only 3 tracks had a good idea what the game of tracking was all about. He is starting obedience classes this fall.
Next spring I plan to continue with agility and tracking.

Next fall I  will have him tested to be a St.John's Ambulance Therapy Dog to certify him to go into schools, hospitals and nursing homes to visit children and the elderly.. This I feel will be his most important job.  Most of all he will be my second best friend (Lyric my ten year old sheltie is the first).. Maybe this makes him my best male sheltie friend... We will become even closer together as we begin "The Journey"

Thank you Pat , we wish you & Dash  good Journey

Agility Association of Canada World Team 2008

By Tracy Sklenar Team Manager

Hi all!
Just a quickie note - you should all be proud of your team! They had
a spectaculr effort over the weekend, bringing home so many medals &
trophies & ribbons that they needed boxes to fit it all in. It was
truly a team effort, and they all pitched in attain success! Not
only did we have multiple podium appearances throughout the
Individual and Biathlon events, but we topped the weekend off by
taking the Bronze in the Team event - against very tough competition -
and did I mention we had two 12" dogs - Target & Minnie - along with
Kayl and her 22" girlies on the Bronze medal team? Pretty cool to so
those little guys kick some butt with some assistance from their BC
pals.

Special applause to Marie-Pierre St-Louis and her 12" Sheltie,
Minnie: Marie-Pierre is just 12 years old. Not only did she win
Bronze on the Individual Gamblers class and run well all weekend, but
she was also the anchor dog for the Canada team that took the Bronze
medal. Pretty impressive to put in 3 fast, clean runs under intense
pressure to help get us on the podium! I believe Marie-Pierre is the
youngest handler to ever reach the podium at any World Championship
event.
